EMS for foodEnvironmental Management Systems (EMS), assurance and traceability for the food and drink sectorWaste, energy, health and safety, sustainable consumption, water use, packaging; all these issues can be managed within an EMS. Implementing an EMS can provide your organisation with a means to control and improve numerous processes that may be costing you significant amounts of your turnover and stop you from being placed in situations where your organisation may be infringing current regulatory requirements. The purpose of an EMS is to increase efficiency within organisation, improve working environments, make customers aware of your environmental credentials and provide a system of continual corrective action and vigilance. The food and drink sector has a clear requirement to show how assurance and traceability of products are examined in supply chains and the methods that companies use to do this will be similar to those employed by an EMS. It is likely that food and drink sector organisations will already be using systems of control and management that are required when implementing an EMS. Every EMS is backed up by technical data, evidence of regulatory compliance and many websites can provide information that will provide a platform for you to base many aspects of an EMS on. The Environmental Data Services (ENDS) website provides updates and subscription to industry reports and the Environmental Data Interactive Exchange (EDIE) website offers news, information, and communications services for environmental professionals.
